Need a Restroom? Text Message for It

How many of you have suddenly felt the "call of nature" in a big city, with no way of knowing where the nearest public restroom is? Note the emphasis is on public, right, as "Restrooms are for customers only" signs are a downer.

Londoners have a cell phone-centric way of fixing what ails you.

Starting today, the Westminster City Council launched "SatLav" (Lav for lavatory, natch). Visitors in the coverage area of approximately 8.5 square miles need only text "toilet" to 80097 to get the location of the nearest public restroom.

How does it work without GPS? It measures your signal strength, probably somewhat similar to how Google is finding your location without GPS.

It's not free; you pay 50¢. But when you're desperate, who cares?

The City Council said they hoped this would reduce urination in public places such as alleyways, estimating 10,000 gallons of urine is, er, deposited yearly. How they got this number, I don't know (nor do I want to know).

I have been trying over two hours to contact the insurance company for my car to ask a question. How in the heck do quote ask a machine a question. I am about ready to cancel next year because of this. It is so frustrating.
