New Zunes in Short Supply

The latest piece of electronics that's in short supply isn't an iPod or an iPhone, or a console like a PS3 or a Wii. It's --- no kidding --- the new Zune, specifically the 80 GB model.

Web retailers have plenty of the 4 GB and 8 GB flash-based Zunes in stock, but they are out of the 80 GB hard-disk based models. For example, if you look at Buy.com, BestBuy.com or even Amazon.com at the time of this writing, they're all currently out of stock.

Apparently Microsoft prioritized the manufacture of the flash-based Zunes; they've indicated that more of the 80 GB models would be at retailers soon.

You have to bet that this is a pleasant surprise for Microsoft.
