Asus Eee PC 8G Finally Available for Pre-Order

When the Asus Eee came out in late October, the smaller (2 GB SSD) and larger (8 GB SSD) versions were not available. Finally, at least one retailer, Dynamism, is taking pre-orders for the 8 GB model --- and we now know the price.

Dynamism is known for getting cutting-edge Japanese electronics earlier than other retailers, sometimes when the darn things aren't even available in the U.S. under normal circumstances.

In this case the Asus Eee PC 8G, the 8 GB SSD-based model with 1 GB of RAM is now on sale, with estimated ship dates of mid- to late-December. No one else seems to have this model listed, not even megasites like Amazon.com or eBay, where frequently direct-from-Asia electronics are sold.

As we knew from prior information, the rest of the specs are the same as the other models, including 7" screen size, CPU, etc. etc. How much will this baby set you back? $499.99 (why can't they just say $500?) plus shipping.

Is is worth it? Well, one things for sure, since the Eee PCs are Windows XP-compatible, this will be a much better fir for XP, if you consider that option in the future.
