Blu-ray Hardware Prices Drop in Latest Salvo in Hi-Def War

In the latest salvo in the high-definition disc price wars, Blu-ray hardware has quietly seen its price drop to below $300. The Samsung BD-P1400 can be found at that price, at least at Amazon.com, Best Buy, and Circuit City --- at least at the time of this writing.

Still, HD-DVD is still cheaper, with the Toshiba HD-A3 selling at Amazon.com for $199. Gone is the HD-A2 at $99, but that's still a $100 price difference.

Of course, the HD-A3 only supports 1080i, while the BD-P1400 supports 1080p. While you'll get arguments back and forth about whether or not there's a difference, the fact is for videophiles there will be a difference, and for people like my mother-in-law, probably not.

At any rate, I previously said I thought there would be price drops / sales of this type from the Blu-ray Group as the holidays continued, and I expect to see more, from both sides of the hi-def spectrum.
