Sony Puts the Aibo Down

It looks like Sony's robot dog Aibo has been put to sleep. I haven't seen a separate press release, but buried in a presentation (PDF here) today for Q3 Fiscal Year 2005 results, is the following text (p. 6):

New Product Development for AIBO has already ceased, and production is targeted to stop by the end of fiscal year 2005. However, after-sales support will continue. There will also be no new development for QRIO. Source: Sony Earnings Presentation Slideshow linked above

I've always preferred my real dogs to the AIBO, but I'm still sorry to see him go. Let's hope the end is quick and painless for man's best robotic friend.
