The iPhone Gets a BitTorrent Client

Heck, this is the perfect thing for downloading that Nine Inch Nails' Ghosts Vol. I, which I wrote about earlier, right? You can get the album directly onto your iPhone without an intervening step, assuming you hack it and put this app on your phone.

Congratulate iPhone Hacker core for this. But there are a bunch of caveats:

  • P2P + EDGE is unstable. The recommendation is to use wi-fi only for P2P, though some say they have gotten 5kb/s with EDGE. Others say it takes down EDGE so fast your head will spin, so let the buyer beware.
  • Command-line only for now, so if you must have GUI, take a pass until later.
  • It's obviously a very early release, so keep that in mind and assume its buggy.
  • You can expect your battery to drain faster than you can download.
With the SDK coming out Thursday, this bodes well for the post-SDK era. And before anyone says anything, there's plenty of legal stuff out there to download ... like the aforementioned Nine Inch Nails album, right?
