PS3 Firmware 2.40 Goes Live

The much-anticipated PS3 Firmware 2.40 - has gone live, as promised, just as July 2nd rolled around. The update includes:

• In-game XMB access
• Trophy Support (the PS3's answer to Xbox 360's achievements) - just remember, trophies are retroactive
  
• Expanded Gamer Profiles

Things users have wanted, but aren't getting in this release:

• The ability to send voice messages
• The ability to wse the XMB in PS2 games or while watching a DVD or Blu-ray disc
• Cross-game invites
• Web browsing in-game
• In-game PlayStation store shopping (oh, come on)
