The Simpsons Skewer (M)Apple
In their typical fashion, The Simpsons 11/30 episode, "Mypods and Boomsticks," lay waste to the Cult of Apple. When Lisa finds that their local mall now has a Mapple store, the family just has to visit it.
The store is complete with Mypods, MyCubes, a Brainiac Bar, and hilarity.
Examples:
When told that he should ask the "MyCube" what he can do for "it" rather than vice versa, Homer gets down on his hands and knees and begs for guidance. However, it's not even on, apparently.
Homer: But it's glowing.Naturally Steve Mobs (Mapple founder and Chief Imaginative Officer) makes an appearance, but Bart hacks into his speech to the enrapt throng (who calls him "a god who knows what we want") as follows:
Mapple employee: Sir, that light confirms that it's off.
Mobs: Greetings, it is I, your insanely great leader, Steve Mobs. I am speaking to you from Mapple headquarters deep below the sea, with an announcement that will completely change the way you look at everything.Yes, I particularly liked the view of the cult status of Steve Mobs as well as the take on the the willingness of consumers (not just Mapple users, BTW) to shell out the big bucks for consumer electronics.
Crowd: Oh!
Mobs: And that announcement is ...
Bart as Mobs: You're all losers!
Crowd: Huh?
Bart as Mobs: You think you're cool because you buy a $500 phone with a picture of a fruit on it? Well, guess what, they costs 8 bucks to make and I pee on every one!
Crowd: Ew (throwing devices on floor).
Bart as Mobs: I have made a fortune off you chumps, and I've invested it all in Microsoft. Now my boyfriend, Bill Gates and I, kiss each other on a pile of your money!
Crowd: No!
Comic Book Guy: Traitor! Your heart is blacker than your turtleneck! (Throws a sledgehammer through the screen in an homage to the 1984 Macintosh ad. It also goes through the glass wall of the Mapple store. Security takes him down.)
Bart laughs.
Mapple Store Employee: Who dares question the boss we fired 10 years ago and then brought back?
Lisa: It's my brother, Bart!
Mapple Store Employee: Flay him with your earbuds, flay him I say!
Watch the whole episode via Hulu below. It's "insanely great," much like Mobs.
