Apple Now Allows iPhone 3G Ordering Online

Apple has crept here, doing things like speeding up the checkout process by allowing part of the checkout process to happen online, but it was AT&T that was the real speed king, allowing orders online, first for Premier customers, and then in general.

Staid old Apple kept having people come into the store. But as of today, it appears that's changed (above). On the other hand, perhaps they just don't care any longer, as they want to get rid of inventory before the new iPhone launches. If so, we could be back to waiting in lines for the new version of the iPhone.

The new ordering process is only for new AT&T customers, while existing AT&T customers will have to pick up their iPhones at local Apple retail stores. Ah, well.

Please, please, let's keep some kind of online ordering for the new iPhone, will ya?
