Google's Docs Now Supports Office 2007 File Formats

On Monday, Google's online Docs service announced support for Microsoft's Office 2007 file formats, .docx and .xlsx. I personally don't find this to be all that exciting, as I hate the UI on Office 2007, and most people I know who do use 2007 (including me) continue to use the suite in compatibility (Office 2003) mode.

Still, it adds a measure of completeness to Google Docs. Prior to this, if you tried to upload a .docx or .xlsx document, the site would simply say the format was not supported (as opposed to perhaps trying to translate it into Office 2003 format). There are official Microsoft converters available for Office 2003, for example.

My problem with Google Docs, and the reason I continue to use Microsoft Office Live is because Google does not offer 100% compatibility with either Word formatting or Excel formulas. They simply do not work the same, at least not 100% of the time, and that's a deal-breaker for me.
