The iPhone Belongs On The Island of Misfit Toys: Verizon

Verizon isn't scared of AT&T and its lawsuit, apparently. AT&T has sued over Verizon's ads showing comparative maps of Verizon vs. AT&T 3G coverage, stating the maps were confusing, but that hasn't stopped Verizon from airing a whole new series of ads.

AT&T has said that the maps used in the ads (shown above) confuse people into thinking that AT&T has no coverage in those areas not marked blue. In reality, the maps indicate a lack of 3G coverage. However, AT&T cited a survey that indicated that many (53%) believe the maps to show a total lack of coverage.

In the first new ad, "Verizon Blue Christmas," shows a man using what pretty much looks like a white iPhone, although you can't see the Apple logo on the back of the device. It's conveniently covered by the man's hand.

The second, "Verizon Elves," shows the assembly line at the North Pole, with those who have ben naughty getting what looked to be another white iPhone with lousy 3G coverage.

Finally, my favorite is called "Verizon Misfit Toys." Anyone who remembers the old claymation "Rudolph" Christmas special will remember the Island of Misfit Toys. The

If the iPhone ever arrives on the Verizon network, or rather, when it does, you can bet the ads will similarly focus on the Verizon network's advantages over the AT&T network.
